The first brew of Gouyasse took several months to develop. Master Brewer Pierre Delcoigne wanted to produce a beer rich in flavor but light in alcohol, working only with four raw materials (malt, hops, water, yeast) and no additives. A noble task and, we think, a successful one.

From the brewery's website:

"Aroma : freshness from the malt and hops evoking all that is natural.

Colour : beautiful light yellow giving the appearance of a filtered beer if you only pour in the first three quarters of the bottle. Naturally it becomes cloudy with the sediment in the final quarter.

Taste : perfect balance of a dry but not overpowering bitterness and a maltiness which softens the hoppiness.

Head : the beer has a fine soft bubbly head.

What does Gouyasse mean?
During the fourth week-end of the month of August, Ath vibrates with
rhythm, tradition and folklore. On the Saturday after his marriage,
celebrated at the service of vespers, the giant Goliath, popularly known as Gouyasse, confronts the shepherd David in single-handed combat.

The following day there is a parade consisting of a number of giants
dancing to the sound of brass bands, of carnival floats, and groups in
traditional costume, which crosses the town. Dating back to the Middle
Ages, this tradition has become enriched by the passing of the centuries."

Best With:
Generally speaking, Belgian ale is a gastronomic miracle. The delicate spicy and fruity nature of these ales, accentuated by the distinctive Belgian yeast strains, pairs beautifully with lamb, mussels, and semi-soft cheeses such as gouda, havarti, and tilsit.
